As we commemorate this day with the theme: “Creating Hope Through Action”, let us all join hands to put an end to suicide.
All of us- family members, friends, co-workers, community members, educators, religious leaders, healthcare professionals, political officials and governments- can take action to prevent suicide in the Region.
It is no longer news that the risk factors for suicide which has been observed to include stressful life events like financial crisis, unemployment, harassment or bullying, abuse, relationship problems, divorce and other life transitions, has been further aggravated by Covid-19.
To reduce the rate of suicide, we need to do everything within our power to help those we can, while we can, and where we can. Do not just sit to criticize and judge. Do something! Create empowerment programs, be kind to people, connect with people to make a difference. Shun bullying and do not body-shame.
Know this, that, your actions and reactions goes a long way as to either positively or negatively influence those around you. So, watch what you do, watch what you say and watch your reaction.
To everyone going through depressing moments or one trauma or the other. Please, Know this, YOU’RE NOT ALONE. There’s much more to what we can do in our world. Try to open up to someone you trust. There is Hope.
