“Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh”. Gen. 2:24
Yesterday, like every other weekends, two souls, a man and a woman, walk down the aisle to say, ‘Yes, I do’. Such a beautiful occasion to behold.😍🥰
Have you ever attended a wedding ceremony to see what I’m talking about, how beautiful it is? Please, if you have not attended a wedding occasion before, please, try to attend one to see for yourself the beauty I’m talking about. Don’t just run after party jollof rice and souvenirs.🤣🤣🤣
Or are you waiting for an invite for mine? 🤣🥰 . Don’t worry, soon.
The part where the husband and wife share their marriage vows, awwnnnn 😊😍🥰 emotional moment, and the ‘you may now kiss the bride’ part. 🥰 I tell you, everyone wants to capture that moment.
That day, is always a special day for both the couples, friends and families, as memories of that special day ain’t so easy to erase. But dear latest husband/ wife, latest couple, do you know? that beyond the afẹfẹ yẹ̀yẹ̀ (celebrations) of that day, you have a duty, a responsibility and a lifestyle that is required of you as a wife and husband, which would help you build a peaceful home.
Today, I’ll be talking about just few of them, which are the bedrock for every other.

EXPECTATIONS FROM THE WIFE/ WOMAN
Wife, you are expected to :
- Love your husband
- Be humble
- Submit yourself to him as he is the head.
- Revere your husband, amidst your friends or family too.
Dear woman, beautiful bride, it has been stated and ordered from the beginning, that, ‘…your desire shall always be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee’ Gen. 3:16c. Your husband is head over you, hence, you are required to submit yourself to your husband in every way and reverence him (Eph.5:22-24,33). - Irrespective of your socio-economic or financial status/position, even age wise, because some women are older than their man, but, as a wife, the maker wants you to be humble and submissive to your husband. Are you ready to be a submissive wife for the betterment of your home or you still want to keep acting bossy in the house which is so obvious to the children because nature or societal challenges cheated your husband and you’re now the bread winner?
- EXPECTATIONS FROM THE MAN/ HUSBAND.
Husband, you are expected to : - Love your wife wholly
- Care for your wife
- Cherish your wife
- Respect your wife
- Dear latest husband in town, husbands that has been, let me remind you that your woman/wife is your glory (1 Cor. 11:7b). And you’ll agree with me that we all want our glory to shine, right?
- How well are you taking care of the glory God has given you? What are you doing to make your glory, ‘woman’ shine?
This made me remember a meme I saw some times back that compared a woman when she was single versus after marriage. In the picture, the lady looked so beautiful and radiant while she was still single, which showed her parents cared for her, but the other, after marriage portrayed her looking so tired and worn out, with the radiance disappearing, this showed that the level of care from her husband weren’t that good.
Man, you are expected to love your wife as your own body, for he that loves his wife, loves himself, for no man ever yet hate his own flesh, but nourish and cherish it. Take care of your wife, love and cherish her. Express to her how much she means to you. She has more purpose as your wife than just waking up to prepare your meal, tidying the house, doing the laundry, birthing your children and the likes.
But first, the question is, why did you marry her in the first place?
If it is for the aforementioned purposes only, then that’s wrong. You have to change your mindset, because women are made for more than that. Provide her with things that will make life easier for her e.g. gadgets and home appliances as much as you have been blessed to provide for her to make her house chores easier, it is not wasteful spending, stop seeing it as one.

Any woman who is shown much love by her husband yet fails to show responsibility to the husband by revering and honouring him is a bad egg. Same goes to the man too.
Finally…
Endeavor to work hand in hand, as couples, respecting and fulfilling every of your responsibilities to one another, never forgetting to invite the presence of the head of all, Jesus, into your home, and your home will be peaceful.
