Stop shooting yourself in the foot!
I repeat, don’t shoot yourself in the foot!!
Yes, you heard me right.
Oh! I see you don’t have a gun in your hand, so you’re wondering: what’s she talking about? Well, I’m not talking about the physical gun.
‘Shooting oneself in the foot’ is an idiomatic expression that means doing or saying something that may cause problems for you or harm your chances of success. More like self sabotage.
In today’s post, I’ll be sharing insights on some of the things we do, that may be a form of self sabotage.
…
In our journey through life, we meet people and we keep meeting new people, thus, new stories are made and we keep gathering experiences.
How about when you meet these new people and then your mind is so fixated with one sole aim that this is how they are going to help you and somehow, they are not able to meet your demands, give you what you want or tell you exactly what you wanted to hear immediately, what do you do? Block them out? Ignore them? Discard them?
NO!!!
Well, maybe ultimately but not immediately.
Now let’s get to it…
Except where one’s mental health and best interest is at risk, I believe it is not everyone you cut off immediately. Cutting people off because they could not grant your wish the moment you requested can be a form of self sabotage, you may be missing out on so many opportunities. By keeping a healthy relationship with that person, you can unlock doors to bigger connections from one another.
Here are few more ways you hurt yourself/ miss a great opportunity.
- Raising a standard you can’t even meet yourself
- Having poor communication skills
- Keeping toxic people or relationships in your life
- You are rigid/ inflexible
- Engaging in negative self-talk
- Having no plans, no goals, no roadmap of what you want out of your life
- Neglecting your health
- Trying to please everyone (people-pleasing)
- Allowing your fear and anxiety to decide for you
- Chasing away relationships for fear of abandonment
- Expecting perfectionism which makes you give up easily at times
- Avoiding responsibility
- Allowing yourself to be emotionally or financially dependent on others
- Identifying with ego (an egoistic person)
- Not learning from mistakes, and lastly;
- You procrastinate a lot
Read through the list again and check out which one of it you often do and devise ways to combat them.
Remember, we need each other to survive.

I learnt a great deal. Thank you ????
Aww
Glad you found lessons therein, and I hope you’ll stop shooting yourself in the foot by not trying to please everyone.
